Thierry Chopin
Head of research of the Robert Schuman Foundation, associate professor at the Catholic University of Lille 

Thierry Chopin holds a PhD in political science from the School for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (EHESS, Paris). He got his Accreditation to supervise research (« Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches », HDR) from Sciences Po.

He is Head of Research at the Robert Schuman Foundation, a French Think-Tank on EU affairs based in Paris and Brussels.

Thierry lectured at the Paris 11 University and at the Interarmies College (Ecole militaire, Paris). He is currently Associate Professor at the European School of Political and Social Sciences of the Catholic University of Lille and Visiting Professor at the College of Europe (Bruges). He also teaches at Mines ParisTech.

He has served, between 2007 and 2008, as scientific advisor to the Strategic Analysis Center (Policy Planning Staff of the French Prime Minister) and as advisor at the Policy Planning Staff of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Thierry has been associate expert at the Center for International Studies of Sciences Po (CERI) and Visiting Fellow at the European Institute of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

His main research interests are: EU legitimacy and democracy; Politicization of the European institutions; Integration of the Eurozone and governance of EMU; Integration and differentiation (multi-speed Europe) and future of the main levels of European integration.

He is the author of many books on European issues including La fracture politique de l’Europe (Larcier, 2015); (with Jean-François Jamet and Christian Lequesne) L’Europe d’après. En finir avec le pessimisme (Lignes de Repères, 2012); and (with Y. Bertoncini), Politique européenne. Etats, pouvoirs et citoyens de l’Union européenne (Presses de Sciences Po-Dalloz, 2010). He is co-editor of Schuman Report on Europe. State of the Union.
